What is the challenge in Thailand?
In Thailand, being Thai is deeply intertwined with Buddhism. The culture, religion, and daily life are so interconnected that many Thais consider Buddhism an essential part of their identity. Consequently, converting to Christianity is often perceived as abandoning one's cultural identity, leading to significant social challenges.
Thailand has the largest Buddhist population in the world. Many Thais view all religions as teaching moral goodness but lack an understanding of the Christian message: that true salvation is found only through Jesus Christ. Despite nearly 200 years of Protestant missionary work, Christians comprise just 1.6% of the population. Additionally, the shortage of evangelists remains a significant obstacle.
